Frequently Asked Questions

This page covers the questions we get asked the most. If your question is not listed here, do not hesitate to get in contact with us via email or our social media pages.

How old does my dog need to be?

Our Puppy Sessions start from 13 weeks. Please see all our Swim Sessions page for the age ranges of our other sessions.

Can I get in the pool too?

Yes! Adults and children can enter the pool with their dogs at their own risk. Children must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult to 1 child). As the water depth is 3-ft, children must be comfortable swimming and shall be able to stand with their shoulders out of the water. Please wear appropriate clothing for the water and weather. We recommend wearing a t-shirt, leggings, long shorts or a wetsuit to avoid potential scratches. We also have waders you can borrow, but you may still get a little wet.

Is the pool heated?

No, our pool is not heated. Please bring appropriate swimwear for the water and weather conditions if you plan to enter the pool.

Do I need to bring anything?

A towel to dry yourself and your dog after your session. You may also wish to bring a change of clothes as you'll probably get wet from the dogs when they shake. We encourage owners to bring their dogs favourite treats for reward purposes. We provide a range of toys and floats for your dogs to play with, but feel free to bring any of your dog's favourite floating toys along.

Can my dog eat before swimming?

It is best not to feed them before swimming.
Ideally, feed them no less than 2 hours before your session and 2 hours after to reduce the risk of bloat.

How long can my dog swim for?

20 minutes is recommended as the safe amount of time for continuous swimming but if you have any concerns regarding your dog please consult your vet for professional advice. Each session is tailored to suit the dog and we do encourage them to take short breaks during their swim session.

Can my dog come if they are recovering from an illness or injury?

Not unless you have written permission from your own vet. However, once they have recovered they are welcome to come to build up their fitness.

Can I bring my dog if they are in season?

No I’m sorry you can’t.

Where is the pool?

We’re located in a secure enclosed paddock in the grounds of Tresillian Barton (formerly Dairyland Farm), on the A3058 just off the A30 near Newquay, Cornwall.

Our address is Swim Dog, Tresillian Barton, Newquay, TR8 5AA. You can also locate us through What3words ///cheaply.reset.animal.

How do you keep the pool clean?

We manually clean our pool each day, in addition to using a salt water chlorinator system to kill bacteria, viruses and algae in the water. The salt water chlorinator reduces the amount of chemicals being added to the pool, giving the benefit of water being softer and less of an irritant on the skin when compared to chlorine pools.

Do you offer hydrotherapy services?

No, the pool is focused on confidence building, exercise and fun.

What if my dog is reactive or unsociable with other dogs?

Please book the Exclusive Use session and before your arrival please make us aware of their issues and what may trigger a reaction from them. We have a one way entrance and exit system in place so your dog won’t come into contact with another dog whilst in our pool area.

Do you allow exempt dogs?

Yes we do. Although please contact us for more information before booking.
